Future mediahome is an experimental housing project studying the concept of future home in relation with digital media and modern technology.

Development of information technology opens new visions towards living, our habits and home. Mediahome studies new possibilities and the affects of networking, internet and new media i.e. what happens to the concept and feeling of home. Through new possibilities Mediahome presents a new consept for the home; the home will be divided to different layers, one connects  and another protects, one is active and another is more passive and protective. In the heart of the home is a virtual space which is connected to the outer world trough networks, but remains open for all kinds of activities from inside. Active areas are 1.cooking, 2.working, 3.bathing, 4.relaxing, while passive areas are for resting and sleeping.

VirAps is an end-user oriented interactive planning system.

The VIRAPS-system is a database driven Web-based application allowing inhabitants to participate in the planning and design of their homes and immediate environments.
The VIRAPS-system approaches housing from the end-user (consumer) point of view. It aims to re-organise the building process from a construction driven system to an end-user (inhabitant) driven one. The building process involves many agents, its flows of information are complex and the decision-making system (both political and economic) is complicated. Therefore the VIRAPS-system has been constructed with two goals in mind: to support the decision-making process of the end-user (the future inhabitant) and to facilitate digital integration and communication within the building industry. Especially the latter has been difficult in the building industry. There is a growing interest among Finnish companies to join the project and support it financially.
